The diary reveals Rose as a planter, businessman, surveyor, doctor, lawyer, and frequent traveler between Albemarle and Essex counties in the last 110 ten pages of the journal. In making these trips he passed through Stafford, Spotsylvania, Louisa, Orange, and Culpeper counties, visiting the leading families and sometimes preaching, baptizing, or performing marriages. He also visited western Virginia and Williamsburg. Mention of the curing of tobacco (7/28/1750).
